SmartStent research launched
Research on a new generation of stents with improved performace and insertibility is being carried out by a team of Maltese experts for easier and more efficient results.
Stents are inserted into narrowed coronary arteries for a normal flow of blood and oxygen to the heart.
However, they are not ideal as they might not operate in the same way as an artery.
The team, from the university’s faculties of science and medicine, HMRD, which is part of the Hal Mann Vella Group of Companies and TekMoulds Precision Engineering, launched the SmartStent project this morning at the Maalta Council for Science and Technology.
The team is made up of Prof. Joseph N. Grima, Dr Ruben Gatt, Dr Daphne Attard and Surgeon Aaron Casha.
